摘要：Reducing maternal and infant deaths’ rates in the develop.ng countries, p.rticularly in sub-Sahara Africa, remain a big challenge. Desp.te efforts by governments, the reductions have been unsatisfactory. To accelerate the reduction in maternal and infant deaths, m-health has been p.op.sed as a viable, economical and effective intervention, able to reach the low income and disadvantaged group.. Mobile p.one-based ap.lications are among the m-health interventions that have been found to have p.sitive outcomes for different healthcare challenges, such as imp.oving clinical attendance and skilled delivery, and reducing p.rinatal mortality. However, the adop.ion of smartp.one-based ap.lications for health in Tanzania has been slow. Some of the likely contributing factors might be low technology exp.sure by the majority of the p.p.lation and English language skills’ limitations. In this work, we develop.d a mobile ap.lication for p.oviding interactive sup.ort to users, thus comp.ementing other solutions available such as SMS and other smartp.one ap.s. The main advantage of this ap. is the p.esence of interactive features that enable p.tient-p.ovider communication. We adop.ed the Rap.d ap.lication develop.ent (RAD) model for develop.ng the ap.lication. We used UML modeling language tools for designing the ap.lication. The mobile ap.lication’s technical architecture uses various technologies and system develop.ent tools such as p.p.p.ogramming language for the web ap.lication, MySQL database management system and Android Studio mobile ap.lication develop.ent p.atform.
