摘要：Backgroun.: Studies have shown.Hepatitis E Virus to be a causative agen. of acute an. chron.c hepatitis in.severely immun.compromised patien.s such as organ.tran.plan. recipien.s an. person.with HIV in.ection. This study was design.d to determin. the burden.of HEV in.ection.amon. HIV positive in.ividuals in.n.geria an. the effect of HIV treatmen. on.the burden.of HEV in.ection.amon. this group of patien.s. Methods: Aliquot of plasma samples collected for laboratory in.estigation. such as CD4 en.meration. blood chemistry (AST, ALT, Creatin., Urea) were used to determin. the presen.e of HEV IgG an. IgM an.ibodies usin. commercially available ELISA. Samples an.lysed in.the study were collected from 180 HIV positive in.ividuals (90 ART n.ive an. 90 ART experien.ed) atten.in. the ART clin.c at the Un.versity College Hospital, Ibadan. n.geria. Results: Twen.y two of the 180 (12.2%) samples were positive for either HEV IgG (20/180) or IgM (2/180). The rate of HEV IgG was higher amon. ART n.ive in.ividuals an. the two IgM positive person. were ART n.ive. There was n. sign.fican. differen.e in.the mean.CD4 coun. an. mean.ALT between.HEV seron.gative an. seropositive in.ividuals (P = 0.8 an. 0.2 respectively).
