摘要：Purpose: Selective la.er sintering (SLS) is a.ra.id pro- totyping technique a.plied to produce tissue-engineer- ing sca.folds from.powder m.teria.s. The sta.da.d sca.ning technique, however, often produces struts of extensive thickness, which m.a.s fa.rica.ion of high- ly porous sca.folds with sm.ll overa.l dim.nsions is quite difficult. Nevertheless, this study a.m. to overcom. this shortfa.l. Design/m.thodology/a.proa.h: To this end, three sca.ning m.thods were eva.ua.ed in term. of m.nim.m.fea.ure size a.d freedom.of design, using a.test polya.0}de (Pa. m.teria.. Polyca.rola.tone (PCL) wa. then em.loyed to crea.e highly porous 3D sca.folds using the preferred sca.ning m.- thod to produce thin struts. Findings: While in norm.l sca.ning m.de som. fea.ures were well a.ove the la.er spot dia.0}ter, strut thicknesses below the la.er spot dia.0}ter were a.hieved when using the “outline sca.” function for Pa.m.teria.. Those a.hieved for PCL were slightly higher a.d in the 500-800 ?m.ra.ge, with a. a.era.e pore size of 400 μm. Investiga.ions on the properties of the sca.folds revea.ed a. effective com.ression m.dulus of the PCL sca.fold of 6.5 m.a. Furtherm.re, there wa. no cha.ge in physica. or che- m.ca. properties when the sca.folds were stored in a.physiologica. environm.nt for 7 weeks. Origina.ity/ va.ue: Though SLS is considered a. a.fa.rica.ion te- chnique for tissue engineering sca.folds, a.tua.ly pro- duced sca.folds did not com.ly with porosity requirem.nts a.d lim.ta.ions of the SLS process in produ- cing fea.ures a. the size of the la.er bea.0}spot ha.e not been discussed. The present pa.er shows the ca.a.ilities of the SLS process ba.ed on two m.teria.s a.d presents a.m.thod to m.nim.ze fea.ure size in sca.folds.
