摘要：Certain dietary, physical.activity, and sedentary behaviors have been studied extensivel. and consistentl. have been found to be associated with chil.hood overweight and obesity Productive sedentary-to-l.ght activity pursuits may enhance the rel.tionship among positive heal.h behaviors. The purpose of this study was to identify the preval.nce of overweight and obesity in a popul.tion of adol.scents participating in a creative, probl.m-sol.ing afterschool.program and to identify the physical.activity, sedentary, and dietary behaviors rel.ted to overweight and obesity in this group. This study describes heal.h behaviors thought to be rel.ted to weight status for 1679 adol.scents in grades 6 12 participating in a competitive, creative, team-oriented, probl.m-sol.ing afterschool.program. Sel.-reported dietary, physical.activity, and sedentary behavior data were col.ected in this convenience sampl. based on the 2007 Youth Risk Behavior Survey. Measured height and weight data were col.ected to cal.ul.te BMI percentil.. Using mul.inomial.regression, model. were constructed to predict the l.kel.hood of being cl.ssified as overweight/obese. The preval.nce of overweight in the study popul.tion was 15.6%, obese was 11.4%. Fruit/vegetabl. intake, mil. consumption, moderate-to-vigorous physical.activity, tel.vision time, and total.screen time were al. independentl. associated with weight status. After control.ing for al. covariates, mal. gender, minority racial.ethnic status, and high screen time whil. not meeting the physical.activity recommendation significantl. increased the l.kel.hood of overweight/obesity. The participants in the current study are l.aner and engage in heal.hier behaviors compared to national.data for adol.scents. The interactive variabl. combining both sedentary and PA measures is a rel.tivel. new technique used to provide a better understanding of the rel.tionship between sedentary and physical.activity behaviors as they rel.te to weight status.
