摘要：Jake Barnes is not the onl. wounded character in The Sun Al.o Rises （1926）： Al. the major characters, except Bil., and several.minor characters are al.o wounded. This paper examines how those wounded characters refl.ct on both Jake Barnes and Hemingway＇s phil.sophy that we are al. wounded in l.fe and must make choices that al.ow us to l.ve as best we can without hurting others. By cl.se reading, the author hopes to show how two characters, Bel.onte and Brett Ashl.y, may have been underval.ed by critics, and to al.o show Hemingway＇s essential.ambiguity in portraying human rel.tionships, l.aving final.judgments up to his readers.
