摘要：Viral vector gene delivery is a promising technique for the therapeutic administra- tion of proteins to damaged tissue for the improvement of regeneration outcomes in various disease settings including brain and spinal cord injury, as well as autoimmune diseases. Though promising results have been demonstrated, limitations of viral vectors, including spread of the virus to distant sites, neutralization by the host immune system, and low transduction efficiencies have stimulated the investigation of biomaterials as gene delivery vehicles for improved protein expression at an injury site. Here, we show how N- fluorenylmethyloxycarbonyl （Fmoc） self-assembling peptide （SAP） hydrogels, designed for tissue-specific central nervous system （CNS） applications via incorporation of the laminin peptide sequence isoleucine-lysine-valine-alanine- valine （IKVAV）, are effective as biocompatible, localized viral vector gene delivery vehicles in vivo. Through the addition of a C-terminal lysine （K） residue, we show that increased electrostatic interactions, provided by the additional amine side chain, allow effective immobilization of lentiviral vector particles, thereby limiting their activity exclusively to the site of injection and enabling focal gene delivery in vivo in a tissue-specific manner. When the C-terminal lysine was absent, no difference was observed between the number of transfected cells, the volume of tissue transfected, or the transfection efficiency with and without the Fmoc-SAP. Importantly, immobilization of the virus only affected transfection cell number and volume, with no impact observed on transfection efficiency. This hydrogel allows the sustained and targeted delivery of growth factors post injury. We have established Fmoc-SAPs as a versatile platform for enhanced biomaterial design for a range of tissue engineering applications.

摘要：This paper presents an approach in designing a robust controller for vehicle suspensions considering changes in vehicle inertial properties. A four-degree-of-freedom half-car model with active suspension is studied in this paper, and three main performance requirements are considered. Among these requirements, the ride comfort performance is optimized by minimizing the Ho~ norm of the transfer function from the road disturbance to the sprung mass acceleration, while the road holding performance and the suspension deflection limitation are guaranteed by constraining the generalized H2 （GH2） norms of the transfer functions from the road disturbance to the dynamic tyre load and the suspension deflection to be less than their hard limits, respectively. At the same time, the controller saturation problem is considered by constraining its peak response output to be less than a given limit using the GH2 norm as well. By solving the finite number of linear matrix inequalities （LMIs） with the minimization optimization procedure, the controller gains, which are dependent on the time-varying inertial parameters, can be obtained. Numerical simulations on both frequency and bump responses show that the designed parameter-dependent controller can achieve better active suspension performance compared with the passive suspension in spite of the variations of inertial parameters.

摘要：The exploration of highly active and durable cathodic oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)catalysts with economical production cost is still the bottleneck to realize the large‐scale commercialization of fuel cells and metal‐air *** that carbon support is crucial to the electrocatalysts,and Pt is the best‐known ORR catalyst so far,in this work,we employed a simple impregnation method for synthesizing a kind of defective activated carbon(D‐AC)supported low Pt content electrocatalysts for the *** reduction conditions of the Pt‐containing precursor were firstly optimized,and the influence of the Pt loading amount on the ORR was investigated as *** results show that the obtained D‐AC@5.0%Pt sample(contains5wt%Pt)has surpassed the commercial Pt/C with20wt%Pt for the ORR in an alkaline *** the meantime,it is more stable than the commercial Pt/*** outstanding ORR performance of the D‐AC@5.0%Pt confirms that both the unique defects in the D‐AC and the introduced Pt particles are indispensable to the ***,m the ORR activity of the synthesized catalysts is superior to most of the reported counterparts,but with much easier preparation methods and lower production cost,making them more advantageous in practical fuel cell applications.

摘要：There has been exponential growth in research activities on nanomaterials and nanotechnology for appli- cations in emerging technologies and sustainable energy in the past decade. The properties of nanomaterials have been found to vary in terms of their shapes, sizes, and number of nanoscale dimensions, which have also further boosted the performance of nanomaterial-based electronic, catalytic, and sustainable energy conversion and storage devices. This reveals the importance and, indeed, the linchpin role of nanomaterial synthesis for current nanotechnology and high-performance functional devices. In this review, we provide an overview of the synthesis strategies for design- ing metal oxide nanomaterials in zero-dimensional （0D）, one-dimensional （1D）, two-dimensional （2D）, and three-di- mensional （3D） forms, particularly of the selected typical metal oxides TiO2, SnO2 and ZnO. The pros and cons of the typical synthetic methods and experimental protocols are reviewed and outlined. This comprehensive review gives a broad overview of the synthetic strategies for designing ＂property-on-demand＂ metal oxide nanostructures to fur- ther advance current nanoscience and nanotechnology.

摘要：Interfacial solar steam generation is an efficient water evaporation technology which has promising applications in desalination,sterilization,water purification and treatment.A common component of evaporator design is a thermal-insulation support placed between the photothermal evaporation surface and bulk *** configuration,common in 2-dimensional(2 D)evaporation systems,minimizes heat loss from evaporation surface to bulk water,thus localizing the heat on the evaporation surface for efficient *** design is subsequently directly adopted for 3-dimensional(3 D)evaporators without any consideration if it is ***,unlike 2 D solar evaporators,the 3 D evaporators can also harvest additional energy(other than solar light)from the air and bulk water to enhance evaporation *** this scenario,the use of thermal insulator support is not proper since it will hinder energy extraction from ***,the traditional 3 D evaporator configuration was completely redesigned by using a highly thermally conductive material,instead of a thermal insulator,to connect evaporation surfaces and the bulk *** higher evaporation rates were achieved by this strategy,owing to the rapid heat transfer from the bulk water to the evaporation *** and outdoor tests both confirmed that evaporation performance could be significantly improved by substituting a thermal insulator with thermally conductive *** findings will redirect the future design of 3 D photothermal evaporators.

摘要：Understanding the ecology of the gastrointestinal tract and the impact of the contents on the host mucosa is emerging as an important area for defining both wellness and susceptibility to disease. Targeted delivery of drugs to treat specific small intestinal disorders such as small bowel bacterial overgrowth and targeting molecules to interrogate or to deliver vaccines to the remote regions of the small intestine has proven difficult. There is an unmet need for methodologies to release probes/drugs to remote regions of the gastrointestinal tract in furthering our understanding of gut health and pathogenesis. In order to address this concern, we need to know how the regional delivery of a surrogate labeled test compound is handled and in turn, if delivered locally as a liquid or powder, the dynamics of its subsequent handling and metabolism. In the studies we report on in this paper, we chose ^13 C sodium acetate（^13C-acetate）, which is a stable isotope probe that once absorbed in the small intestine can be readily measured non-invasively by collection and analysis of ^13CO2 in the breath. This would provide information of gastric emptying rates and an indication of the site of release and absorptive capacity. In a series of in vitro and in vivo pig experiments, we assessed the enteric-protective properties of a commercially available polymer EUDRAGIT L100-55 on gelatin capsules and also on DRcaps. Test results demonstrated that DRcaps coated with EUDRAGIT L100-55 possessed enhanced enteric-protective properties, particularly in vivo. These studies add to the body of knowledge regarding gastric emptying in pigs and also begin the process of gathering specifications for the design of a simple and cost-effective enteric-coated capsule for delivery of acid-labile macromolecules to the small intestine.
