摘要：Gear teeth in gear transmission systems suffer seriously from fatigue failure during service. In this work, a 2 D double-tooth model was constructed with periodic boundary conditions. The fatigue fracture behavior of gear teeth was analyzed using the extended finite element method(XFEM), with emphases on the impacts of initial crack geometries and cyclic load factors. The results suggested that the shortest fatigue life is expected for 0° orientation cracks initiating at the maximum principal stress. Cracks that initiate closer to the bottom land of gear tooth are relatively safe. Moreover, to evaluate the fatigue load conditions, load ratio, load range, and mean load should be all taken into considerations. Further XFEM simulation for material selection was performed to guide the gear design. Among various material parameters, the material constant C and tensile strength are the most significant ones in determining the fatigue life.

摘要：Molecular dynamics(MD) simulations were carried out to study the fracture behaviors of several symmetric tilt grain boundaries in γ-Ti Al bicrystals with misorientation axes. Tensile deformation along direction perpendicular to grain boundary was simulated under various strain rates and temperatures. The results indicate that the relative orientation of the grains and the presence of certain atom units are two critical factors of the interface structure affecting the stress required for dislocation nucleation. Dislocations nucleate and extend at or near the symmetric tilt grain boundaries during the tensile deformation of Σ3(111) 109.5°, Σ9(221) 141.1° and Σ27(552) 148.4° interfaces. For Σ27(115) 31.6° and Σ11(113) 50.5° interfaces, the interfaces fractured directly in a cleavage manner due to no dislocation emitted from the boundary. The tensile fracture mechanisms of the bicrystals are that micro-cracks nucleate at the grain boundary and propagate along the interface. The variance of crack propagation is whether there is accommodation of plastic region at the crack tips.

摘要：In order to study fracture behaviors of asphalt mixtures, virtual tests of the two-dimensional（2D） microstructure based on the discrete element method（ DEM） are designed. The virtual structure of the 2D digital specimen of asphalt mixture is generated based on a particle generation program, in which the gradation and the irregular shapes of aggregates are considered. With the 2D digital specimens, a DEM-based mixture model is established and center-point beam fracture simulation tests are conducted by the DEM. Meanwhile, a series of calibration tests are carried out in laboratory to evaluate the DEM model and validate the methods of virtual fracture tests. The test results indicate that the fracture intensity of asphalt mixtures predicted by the DEM matches very well with the intensity obtained in laboratory. It is concluded that the microstructural virtual tests can be used as a supplemental tool to evaluate fracture properties of asphalt mixtures.

摘要：A flow mathematical model with multiple horizontal wells considering interference between wells and fractures was established by taking the variable width conductivity fractures as basic flow *** a semi-analytical approach was proposed to model the production performance of full-life cycle in well pad and to investigate the effect of fracture length,flow capacity,well spacing and fracture spacing on estimated ultimate recovery(EUR).Finally,an integrated workflow is developed to optimize drilling and completion parameters of the horizontal wells by incorporating the productivity prediction and economic *** is defined as nested optimization which consists of outer-optimization shell(i.e.,economic profit as outer constraint)and inner-optimization shell(i.e.,fracturing scale as inner constraint).The results show that,when the constraint conditions aren’t considered,the performance of the well pad can be improved by increasing contact area between fracture and formation,reducing interference between fractures/wells,balancing inflow and outflow between fracture and formation,but there is no best compromise between drilling and completion *** only the inner constraint condition is considered,there only exists the optimal fracture conductivity and fracture *** considering both inner and outer constraints,the optimization decisions including fracture conductivity and fracture length,well spacing,fracture spacing are achieved and *** the fracturing scale is small,small well spacing,wide fracture spacing and short fracture should be *** the fracturing scale is large,big well spacing,small fracture spacing and long fracture should be used.

摘要：A knowledge-based system in structural component design based on fracture mechanics is developed in this paper. The system consists of several functional parts: a general inference engine, a set of knowledge bases and data-bases, an interpretation engine, a bases administration system and the interface. It can simulate a human expert to make analysis and design scheme mainly for four kinds of typical structural components widely used in shipbuilding industry: pressure vessels, huge rotation constructions, pump-rod and welded structures. It is an open system which may be broadened and perfected to cover a wider range of engineering application through the modification and enlargement of knowledge bases and data-bases. It has a natural and friendly interface that may be easily operated. An on-line help service is also provided.

摘要：The design and performance evaluation of a sustained load creep testing machine was undertaken in this research. The design was motivated by the need to make locally available, a cost effective, technically efficient, and easily operated creep testing facility;for creep behaviour studies of materials. Design drawings and purchase of materials and components for the design were undertaken after thorough evaluation of the following design and materials selection criteria: design principle and theory, local availability of raw materials and components required for the design, material properties, cost of materials and design, ease of utilization and maintenance, and basis of testing and data capture. The machine casing and frame, heating chamber (consisting of the furnace and a dual specimen mounting stage), load lever and hanger system, and the electro-technical components;were fabricated and coupled following the produced design specifications. The machine was tested and its performance was assessed using its heating efficiency, repeatability and reproducibity of experimental test results, maintainability and cost-effectiveness as criteria. It was observed from repeat tests that the machine has the capacity of generating reliable data for computing creep strain-time results. The efficiency and temperature regulating capacity of the heating unit of the machine were also observed to be very satisfactory. The cost of the design was about 112,000 Naira ($700.00) which is cheaper in comparison to similar commercial creep testing machines from abroad. The machine was also found not to pose maintenance or repairs challenges.
