摘要：The inhibition of copper corrosion by acid extract of Gnetum africana was studied using weight loss method of monitoring corrosion rate. The inhibition of Gnetum africana on copper corrosion was optimized by application of 23 factorial design. While the interactive effects of temperature, inhibition concentration and reaction time were investigated, the input factors and output response were also optimized. Optimum conditions for inhibition of Gnetum africana on copper corrosion were recorded at temperature of 303 K, reaction time of 24 h and inhibition concentration of 0.003 g/L. It could be concluded that factorial design was adequately applicable in the optimization of process variables and that Gnetuma africana sufficiently inhibited the corrosion of copper at the conditions of the experiment.

摘要：We designed and synthsized a series of novel 6-oxo-l,6-dihydropyrimidine-2,5-dicarboxamide derivatives and evaluated their inhibition effects on MMP 3, MMP 12 and MMP 13. The pharmacological results show that they have potent and highly selective activity of inhibiting MMP 13.

摘要：A series of genistein-polyamine conjugates(4a–4h) were designed, synthesized and evaluated as multi-functional anti-Alzheimer agents. The results showed that these compounds had significant cholinesterases(Ch Es) inhibitory activity. Compound 4b exhibited the strongest inhibition to acetylcholinesterase(ACh E) with an IC_(50) value of 2.75 μmol/L, which was better than that of rivastigmine(5.60 μmol/L). Lineweaver–Burk plot and molecular modeling study showed that compound 4b targeted both the catalytic active site(CAS) and the peripheral anionic site(PAS) of ACh E. Besides, compound 4b showed potent metal-chelating ability. In addition, it was found that 4a–4h did not affect Hep G-2 cell viability at the concentration of 10 μmol/L.

摘要：Parkinson’s disease(PD)is the second largest degenerative disease of central nervous system around the world.α-Synuclein(α-syn)is the main component of Lewy body amyloid deposits in the brain of PD patients and associated with the pathogenesis of PD.α-Syn aggregates can induce neuron death and cause irreversible neurological ***,the inhibition ofα-syn aggregation and removal of preformed amyloid fibers are important strategies for the prevention and treatment of ***,there is still a lack of potent inhibitors to interfere withα-syn *** this work,we demonstrate that lentinan(LNT),a natural polysaccharide extracted from the fruit body of Lentinula edodes,can potently preventα-syn aggregation,disassemble preformed amyloid aggregates,and suppressα-syn-mediated cell toxicity and reactive oxygen species ***,we also find that the molecular weight of the polysaccharide impacts the inhibitory effect of *** in vivo investigation demonstrates that LNT significantly inhibits the accumulation ofα-syn in nematodes ***,relieves the symptoms of PD nematode motility disorders,and effectively protects dopaminergic neurons from *** PD *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first time to report that LNT can modulateα-syn aggregation in vitro and in vivo,which will provide new insights for designing and developing potential agents for PD treatment.

摘要：Holographic polymer/liquid-crystal composites,which are periodically ordered materials with alternative polymer-rich and liquid-crystal-rich phases, have drawn increasing interest due to their unique capabilities of reconstructing colored three-dimensional(3 D) images and enabling the electro-optic response. They are formed via photopolymerization induced phase separation upon exposure to laser interference patterns, where a fast photopolymerization is required to facilitate the holographic patterning. Yet, the fast photopolymerization generally leads to depressed phase separation and it remains challenging to boost the holographic performance via kinetics ***, we disclose that the ketyl radical inhibition is able to significantly boost the phase separation and holographic performance by preventing the proliferated diffusion of initiating radicals from the constructive to the destructive regions. Dramatically depressed phase separation is caused when converting the inhibiting ketyl radical to a new initiating radical, indicating the significance of ketyl radical inhibition when designing high performance holographic polymer composites.

摘要：Plant extracts are widely studied for their anti-cancer and cancer preventive effects. In this study, we compared the leukemia growth inhibition effects of seven different plant extracts, theaflavin, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), epicathechin (EC), apigenin, quercetin, chrysin and tannic acid, in vitro using the K562 erythroleukemia cell line and application of the design of experiments (DoE) methodology. Our systematic approach enabled us to isolate the main factor contribution, two-factor interactions and produced interaction relationships and/or models to describe growth inhibitory effects of different plant extracts when they are used in combination. The results identified tannic acid as the most significant inhibitor in this group and had synergistic effects with EGCG at specific concentrations. The fitted model of their combined effects showed that the most potent combination is at low concentrations of tannic acid (10 - 20 μM) and high concentrations of EGCG (80 - 100 μM). We further showed that tannic acid induced both growth inhibition and apoptosis in K562 cells in ranges between 10 - 100 μM. The polyphenol caused cell cycle arrest at G2- phase under the higher concentrations. In summary, use of DoE techniques effectively identified the most prominent inducer in this group of plant bioactive compounds and produced combinatorial bioactivity of various polyphenols and flavonoids over the entire range of concentrations under study. This study exemplifies the usefulness of DoE and serves as a guide in its utility for in vitro assessment of bioactivity in plant constituents.
