摘要：This paper analysed The Sound and the Fury with the theory of intertextuality, with the aim of going back tointersubjectivity, as promoted by Mikhail Bakhtin. Drawing insight from Susan Sontag’s opinion on“interpretation”, the author highlights the importance of openness and indeterminacy, as well as the significance ofthe “form”. The author argues that Faulkner found his own voice in the dialogue with previous writers and invitedreaders to interact with the texts as well.

摘要：The WorM＇s Wife （1999）, written by Carol Ann Duffy, who is the first woman and first openly LGBT person appointed Britain＇s poet Laureate, is a collection of poems which makes full use of intertextuality to show Duffy＇s subversion to patriarchy. In this collection, histories and myths are parodied, quoted, alluded and even rewritten. Women in her poems are given chances to speak out for themselves, which can be seen as a form of resistance against patriarchy. In this article, constitutive intertextuality as well as manifest intertextuality like parody, quotation and allusion in The WorM＇s Wife will be discussed specifically. By analyzing how those intertextual features are adopted as a form of resistance against patriarchy, this article aims to help readers form a better perception of the feminism Duffy raises, and tries to help more women who are being suppressed by men, to find and reconstruct their identities.

摘要：American novelist Philip Roth demonstrated admiration for and intimacy with Joseph Conrad’s *** abound of Roth’s direct and oblique references to Conrad’s novels.A close and comparative reading of Roth’s American Pastoral and Conrad’s Lord Jim reveals the intertextuality between the two novels in three aspects:narrative techniques,characterization and the protagonist’s *** incorporating Conrad’s Lord Jim into the fabric of American Pastoral through intertextuality,Roth rewrites Jim’s story in a new historical and social context,throwing new light on the canonical work and revealing the dilemma and tragedy of American Jewish immigrants in their pursuit of American Dream.

摘要：The writing of Thomas Hardy cannot be readily defined as an embodiment of the Realistic tradition. His too-liminal status as the last Victorian novelist, regional writer, and a collector of English rustics, has been vivaciously debated and contested （Miller, 1970; Widdowson, 1989; Moore, 1990; Morgan, 1992; Armstrong, 2000; Mallet, 2002; Nemesvari, 2011）. This argument contributes to the debate on the relation between the real and the textual in Hardy＇s last novel, Jude the Obscure （1895）, which shows that Hardy＇s language has features of a self-referential novel, close to the antimimetic poetics of postmodernist genres, which insists, however, on the connection with the real, where lies the inspiration for creativity and political intervention. Through the analysis of the allegorical figures of ＂intertexts＂ interwoven in the language of the novel, it will be argued that the representation of the novel registers the connection between Hardy＇s visual imagination and his intention to intervene in a discursive field.

Rhymed opera proverb as an important part of Chinese opera culture mirrors the ideology and culture in China. The opera proverb is responsible for both inheriting the tradition and developing the ancient art. The biggest challenge is translation which is carrier of culture. Through good translation, we will gain a better understanding of the quintessence of our tradition and of the living embodiment of China and Chinese culture. This paper is intended to study opera proverb translation from the viewpoint of ＂intertextuality＂. The author believes that translation is a type of transforming activity intertextualized with language, text, and culture. intertextuality theory is applied to investigate the process of translation. intertextuality will be of great help to the translation of opera proverbs, which means not only to explore and transfer the literal meaning of the source text, but also to interpret and expound the cultural meaning. Only if a translation is reliable and makes sense of traditional culture can our culture be known and appreciated by the world.

摘要：Paulo Coelho＇s novels call into question the nature of the literary text and the act of reading in a post-Einsteinian world. Amidst the debate over his popular writings （Albanese; Ndagano）, the discussion turns to whether Coelho continues a poetics of narrative developed by Jorge Luis Borges. This paper explores how Coelho＇s work may depart from a reading of Borges, yet goes beyond it into what Bakhtin established as ＂the Einsteinian universe applied to literary studies＂, as posited by Stone （2008）. Coelho＇s work is affected by hypertexts, new ways of connecting and perceiving subjectivities, and cross-cultural pilgrimages. A hermeneutic reading of his novel, The Zahir： A Novel of Obsession （2005b）, allows us to delve into the Coelhian the notion of the zahir as a tensional metaphor （Ricouer） of world-making （Valdes）. This underscores the postmodern assumption of the author as just another reader, albeit an ably active one. Through the courageous act of making his reading（s） transparent through writing, he invites other readers into the dialectical presumptions of his world.

摘要：The article is structured around a premise of intertextuality, which is suggested not only by McCarthy＇s own more or less overt allusions to Faulkner＇s writing but also by the very name of his protagonist Suttree, which is evocative of the name of perhaps the best known Faulkner villain Thomas Sutpen. This supposition in turn leads to an argument that in his 1979 novel McCarthy does indeed reverse the life story of Thomas Sutpen by making Suttree descend down the very path that Sutpen ascended a century and a half before him, i.e., from the ranks of Southern aristocracy to the scum of the earth, and in defiance of the same ideology that Sutpen went to great lengths to embrace. Thus, an intertextual and comparative approach to McCarthy＇s novel not only in the context of Faulkner＇s Absalom, Absalom! but also his Light in August （cf. Joe Christmas） and The Sound and the Fury （cf. Quentin） as well as Ellen Glasgow＇s short story ＂Jordan＇s End＂ demonstrates that what Cormac McCarthy actually does in Suttree is to demythologize the South, complete with its aristocratic pretensions （＂doing pretty＂）, dubious morality （incest） and fear of miscegenation （obsession with time and the double）. Moreover, in doing so, he defamiliarizes it by reducing it to its Other （poor whites and African Americans）, whose authenticity, liveliness and charitability defy the affectation, lifelessness and decadence of the aristocratic South.
