摘要：This paper aims to compare and contrast two site-specific performance productions, both designed to grapple with processes of cultural remembrance, whilst also operating as successful tourist attractions. The narratives encompassed by both productions revolve around shared Australian histories, for audiences attracted by place and what it is able to represent. Re-enactments of past events call into the present a consideration of what still remains, with both shows enabling new subjective interpretations of earlier times. The defining difference between the two, however, rests in the context of each performance, in the one case as a commodification of heritage and in the other case as the desire to produce an artistic yet popular theatrical product. Ballarat＇s, Sovereign Hill＇s light and sound show, Blood on the Southern Cross celebrates and commemorates, in mega-spectacle style, the Eureka Stockade, one of Australia＇s key historical events. Using a mechanised display of the original goldmining site of the Eureka rebellion, the performance is operated by computers with video-projection, multi-phonic sound, and moving model forms, with audiences moved around the massive site on transporters. The Piccolo Tales, a contrasting performance most notably in terms of size, unfolds the history of Kings Cross, through its setting in the miniscule iconic Piccolo Bar, in one of the tiny side streets of Sydney＇s bustling and densest suburb. This paper encompasses an investigation of how the cultural inscriptions of the two specific sites interweave with the performance styles, materials, political and social positioning of the works. Previous performance studies examining site-specificity are utilised, including the author＇s analysis of particular festival performances as ＂place-making＂ （Hayes, 2012, 2013）. 摘要：This paper motivated and inspired by an interdisciplinary critical educational issue adopted for a research work approach. It concerned with application of realistic Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) models integrating reading brain function with multi-sensory cognitive learning theory. Specifically, these models adopted to improve tutoring quality (academic achievement) while teaching children “how to read?” considering the analysis and evaluation of phonics methodology. Herein, quantitative analysis and evaluation of this issue performed by considering two computer aided learning (CAL) packages concerned with a specific selected mathematical topic namely: long division process. Via realistic modeling of packages using (ANNs) based upon associative memory learning paradigm. In more details, at educational field practice; both CAL packages have been applied for teaching children algorithmic steps performing long division processes. Moreover, learning performance evaluation of presented packages considers children outcomes’ achievement after tutoring for suggested Mathematical Topic either with or without associated tutor’s voice. Interestingly, statistical analysis of obtained educational case study results at children classrooms (for both applied packages) versus classical tutoring proved to be in well agreement with obtained after ANNs computer simulation results.

摘要：Tactile display is recently attracting much attention in the field of human computer interaction. There is a strong need for such a device especially for application in which the touch feeling is lost, such as surgeons willing to feel the tissue hardness during laparoscopic surgeries. In this paper, a novel multi-modal tactile display device which can display both surface shape and stiffness of an object is introduced. The conceptual design is built upon using two springs, made of Shape memory Alloys-SMA, to control both shape and stiffness. The design parameters of this device are selected based on the spatial resolution of human finger and the stiffness range of the soft tissue. The display device is simulated using Finite Element Method, FEM, to study the effect of design parameters on the resulting stiffness. The results showed that the device can display stiffness of an object independent of its shape display. Simulation results confirmed that the stiffness display is stable when applying force by the finger during indentation for feeling stiffness, since the total stiffness error does not exceed 1.2%.

摘要：The present study aimed at determining whether short-term exposure to art in shared common areas in congregate housing units could affect health and health determinants among the residents. Ten residents (mean age 80.4 years) at one block were exposed to visual art environmental enrichment in common areas over a period of three months. Thirteen persons (mean age 86.6 years) living in another block played in-house boule. Cornell’s test, Mini-Mental tests (MMT), and face recognition test were performed to assess depression, cognition, and episodic memory, respectively before and after the intervention. The results show that visual art environmental enrichment in common areas and lack of stimulating and guiding dialogues show a change in depression scores in the intervention group (p = 0.018) and the control group (p = 0.009). MMT scores improved only in the control group (p = 0.003). No changes in episodic memory in any of the groups were observed. It could be concluded that in order to obtain a positive result of short term visual art environmental enrichment, guiding art dialogues conducted by nurses, as described in previous research, should be added to visual art environmental enrichment in healthcare settings.
