摘要：A design of polarization-maintaining retro-reflectors （PMRRs） for folded-path applications is proposed and analyzed. The prism-based scheme enables the output light, which is parallel to the input, to have an identical state of polarization. The principle of the design is theoretically verified, and the related error is analyzed due to possible manufacturing imperfection. The maximum spatial angle error is ±2.75°. The effect on the extinction ratio and insertion loss is also discussed, which further proves the design＇s feasibility in practical applications.

摘要：The reflection and transmittance of s- and p-polarized lights should be treated separately at nonzero angle incidence. By choosing two special film materials whose refractive indices meet the Brewster condition in a given incident angle, the reflection of p-polarized light can be eliminated. When the two materials are fabricated into multilayer stacks, the reflection of s-polarized light can be largely increased while the reflection of p-polarized light keeps low. According to this principle, a film polarizer with bandwidth of 198 nm or even more is designed.

摘要：Through the reversible isomerization of trans-cis-trans under the linear polarization light, the molecules of azo materials have the same tropism which is vertical to the polarization of light. This means that azo materials have photo-induced birefringence which is related to optical power and polarization angle of the light. Based on the photo-induced birefringence of azo materials, we design a new type of optically pumped semiconductor vertical external cavity surface emitting laser （OPS-VECSEL） which can control the polarization and frequency of the ejection laser. The functional molecules of azo materials are [3-azo- （4＇nitro）]- （9-ethyl）-carbazole （ANECz）.

摘要：Dielectric gratings with period in the range from λ/10 to λ/4 with A being the illumination wavelength not only exclude higher order diffractions but also exhibit strong dispersion of effective indices which are proportional to the wavelength. Moreover, they are insensitive to the incident angle of the illumination wave. With these features, we can design a true zero-order achromatic and angle-insensitive phase retarder which can be used as the polarization state analyzer in middle wave infrared （MWIR） imaging polarimetry. A design method using effective medium theory is described, and the performance of the designed phase retarder is evaluated by rigorous coupled wave analysis theory. The calculation results demonstrate that the retardance deviates from 45° by 〈 ±1.6° within a field of view ：±l0° over the MWIR bandwidth （3-5μm）.
