摘要：The field of earthquake engineering and seismology is of great importance to structural engineers around the world. The location, size and consequences of an earthquake are variable depending on several conditions. Surface conditions, boundary/fault type, distance from the boundary and hypocenter are all elements that dictate the outcome of a seismic event. The paper presents a comparison of seismic provisions of two seismic design codes—-EC8 (Eurocode 8) and IBC (International Building Code) 2006, to a high-rise reinforced concrete building. The building is irregular and composes of 20 floors. The equivalent lateral force analysis was performed using the well-known structure program—-etabs (Extended 3D Analysis of Building Systems). Based on the analysis results (inter-storey index, global damage index, storey displacement, inter-storey drift ratio and base shear), EC8 was found to be conservative when compared with IBC 2006. The conclusion is that for the design and analysis of high-rise reinforced concrete buildings with certain irregularity, EC8 provisions were considered to be conservative.

摘要：The main concern of this paper is to study the influence of the building slenderness ratio on the structural behavior of the residential concrete tall buildings aiming to deepen structure and architect designers understanding for such type of buildings. The study is emphasized only on Kuwait city design conditions for wind and seismic loadings. The paper presents an actual case study for adding two thirty stories residential towers with two different slenderness ratios to an existing residential complex. Wind loading is considered using both code values and wind tunnel results. Three dimensional finite element techniques through etabs software are used in conducting analysis for structures presented here. A serviceability study is performed to ensure that buildings have sufficient stability to limit lateral drift and peak acceleration within the acceptable range of occupancy comfort. In addition, an ultimate strength study is carried out to verify that all the structural elements are designed to withstand factored gravity and lateral loads in a safe manner according to the international building codes. Analysis results are presented and discussed. A brief idea about foundation design of the new towers and its connection to the existing foundation is presented. Finally conclusions are summarized as guidelines for the structural professions of concrete residential tall buildings.

摘要：由于建筑抗震设计的复杂性,在实际工程中抗震概念设计就显得尤为重要。由于钢筋混凝土材料性能的离散性、变形成分的多样和影响因素的众多。很难建立一个通用的可用于精确计算的本构模型。对钢筋混凝土框架结构的抗震分析还是较难的一个因事情。在有了计算机辅助设计分析以后,大大提高了分析的效率。本文就是文对静力弹塑性分析进行了研究,指出了它的基本原理和方法优势。然后讨论了采用etabs进行pushover计算的特点。
