摘要：The main concern of this paper is to study the influence of the building slenderness ratio on the structural behavior of the residential concrete tall buildings aiming to deepen structure and architect designers understanding for such type of buildings. The study is emphasized only on Kuwait city design conditions for wind and seismic loadings. The paper presents an actual case study for adding two thirty stories residential towers with two different slenderness ratios to an existing residential complex. Wind loading is considered using both code values and wind tunnel results. Three dimensional finite element techniques through ETABS software are used in conducting analysis for structures presented here. A serviceability study is performed to ensure that buildings have sufficient stability to limit lateral drift and peak acceleration within the acceptable range of occupancy comfort. In addition, an ultimate strength study is carried out to verify that all the structural elements are designed to withstand factored gravity and lateral loads in a safe manner according to the international building codes. Analysis results are presented and discussed. A brief idea about foundation design of the new towers and its connection to the existing foundation is presented. Finally conclusions are summarized as guidelines for the structural professions of concrete residential tall buildings.

摘要：Piles supporting marine structures such as jetties, relieving platforms, quay walls and fixed offshore structures are subjected to lateral loads due to berthing and mooring forces, wind, waves, storm surges and current forces. This paper presents some factors that affect the design of pile groups supporting marine structures founded in cohesionless soils. Some main aspects that should be considered in the pile group design are addressed such as pile batter angle, pile group arrangement, pile spacing, pile slenderness ratio and magnitude of lateral static loading. Numerical analyses were conducted to investigate these design aspects with and without impact of scour. Different scour depths were considered to cover the possible root causes of scour around pile groups such as waves, current and ship propeller jets. The study revealed that scour has greater impact on lateral loading of pile groups compared to its impact on single piles. Pile groups with side-by-side arrangement exposed to scour are more critical than single piles and piles groups with tandem arrangement due to the combined effect of scour and pile-soil-pile interaction. It is also concluded that scour protection is not always required. More attention and considerations should be given to scour protection around piles especially if the piles are closely spaced, arranged side-by-side and if slenderness ratio is less than 12.5.

摘要：To provide quality-of service (QoS) guarantees for heterogeneous applications, most recent wireless communications technologies and standards combine the error-correcting capability of hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) schemes at the data link layer (DLL) with the adaptation ability of the adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) modes at the physical layer (PHY) layer. This paper aims to investigate the aggregated system capacity as well as the breakdown of this capacity for different ACM modes in each HARQ scheme. This investigation was done by using maximum weighted capacity (MWC) resource allocation at the PHY layer in conjunction with a novel packet error rate (PER)-based scheduling at the medium access control (MAC) layer. As a result, the dominant AMC mode corresponding to channel SNR was available.

摘要：The research presented in this paper quantifies and models the impact of wet pavement surface and rainy weather conditions on driver perception-reaction times(PRTs),deceleration levels,and traffic signal change interval durations.A total of 648 stop-run records were collected as part of the research effort for a 72 km/h(45 mi/h)approach speed where participant drivers encountered a yellow indication initiation at different distances from the *** participant drivers were randomly selected in different age groups(under 40 years old,40 to 59 years old,and 60 years of age or older)and genders(female and male).Using the gathered data,statistical models for driver PRT and deceleration levels were developed,considering roadway surface and environmental parameters,driver attributes(age and gender),roadway grade,approaching speed,and time and distance to the intersection at the onset of *** weather yellow timings were then developed and summarized in lookup tables as a function of different factors(driver age/gender,roadway grade,speed limit,precipitation level,and roadway surface condition)to provide practical guidelines for the design of yellow signal timings in wet and rainy weather *** results indicate that wet roadway surface conditions require a 5 percent increase in the change interval and that rainy conditions require a 10 percent or more increase in the duration of the change *** recommended change durations can also be integrated within the Vehicle Infrastructure Integration(VII)initiative to provide customizable driver warnings prior to a transition to a red indication.

摘要：Recently, nuclear material monitoring becomes very important especially in the emerging nuclear regions. In this paper, the Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) network is proposed to handle the communication between local Dose Rate Measuring units and Central Monitoring unit. To achieve this purpose, a scheme is proposed to compute dose rate and transfer its values in conjunction with time stamp and location to the Central Monitoring unit of the Network using Wide Band Code Division Multiple Accessing (WCDMA) system. Specification and Language (SDL) language is used to design, implement and simulate the proposed scheme. Simulation results show the functionality of this scheme.

摘要：This paper presents a new concept for damping electro-mechanical oscillations in large turbo generator. The proposed concept is based on coordination between Power System Stabilizer （PSS） and Thyristor Controlled Braking Resistor （TCBR）. This coordination will enhance the stability of the inertial and torsional oscillatory modes. The study is performed on system-I of the second IEEE benchmark for simulation of Sub-Synchronous Oscillations, using eigenvalue analysis and verified by detailed digital simulation. A dynamic fundamental frequency model for TCBR is developed. The pole placement technique is used to design the control system of TCBR and PSS. The shaft torque＇s following a disturbance is computed and analyzed. The obtained results indicate that substantial damping is achieved by the proposed coordination.

摘要：New thiazolo[4,5-d]pyrimidines 4a, b, thioxopropanoic acid ethyl ester 7 and 4-oxothiazolidine benzenesulfonamides 9a-h were designed and synthesized. The molecular design was performed using MOE (Molecular Operating Environment) software to predict the binding mode of the proposed compounds on hCA II. All the newly synthesized compounds were evaluated for their in-vitro anticancer activity against liver cancer cell line (HEPG-2) in which hCAII is overexpressed. The activity of the screened compounds was compared with that of doxorubicin, the reference drug. The radiosensitizing ability of the promising compounds 3, 4b, 9b was studied which showed an increase in the cell killing effect of γ-radiation after combination with them.
