摘要：As Moore＇s law based device scaling and accompanying performance scaling trends are slowing down, there is increasing interest in new technologies and computational models for fast and more energy-efficient information processing. Meanwhile, there is growing evidence that, with respect to traditional Boolean circuits and von Neumann processors, it will be challenging for beyond-CMOS devices to compete with the CMOS technology. Exploiting unique characteristics of emerging devices, especially in the context of alternative circuit and architectural paradigms, has the potential to offer orders of magnitude improvement in terms of power, performance, and capability. To take full advantage of beyond-CMOS devices, cross-layer efforts spanning from devices to circuits to architectures to algorithms are indispensable. This study examines energy-efficient neural network accelerators for embedded applications in this context. Several deep neural network accelerator designs based on cross-layer efforts spanning from alternative device technologies, circuit styles, to architectures are highlighted. Application-level benchmarking studies are presented. The discussions demonstrate that cross-layer efforts indeed can lead to orders of magnitude gain towards achieving extreme-scale energy-efficient processing.

摘要：In this paper, we present a general model for Arabic bank check processing indicating the major phases of a check processing system. We then survey the available databases for Arabic bank check processing research. The state of the art in the different phases of Arabic bank check processing is surveyed （i.e., pre-processing, check analysis and segmentation, features extraction, and legal and courtesy amounts recognition）. The open issues for future research are stated and areas that need improvements are presented. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first survey of Arabic bank check processing.

摘要：In the field ofnanotechnology, quantum dot-cellular automata （QCA） is the promising archetype that can provide an alternative solution to conventional complementary metal oxide semiconductor （~MOS） circuit. QCA has high device density, high operating speed, and extremely low powex consumption. Reversible logic has widespread applications in QCA. Researchers have explored several designs of QCA-based reversible logic circuits, but still not much work has been reported on QCA-based reversible binary subtractors. The low power dissipation and high circuit density of QCA pledge the energy-efficient design of logic circuit at a nano-scale level. However, the necessity of too many logic gates and detrimental garbage outputs may limit the functionality of a QCA-based logic circuit. In this paper we describe the design and implementation of a DG gate in QCA. The universal nature of the DG gate has been established. The QCA building block of the DG gate is used to achieve new reversible binary subtractors. The proposed reversible subtractors have low quantum cost and garbage outputs compared to the existing reversible subtractors. The proposed circuits are designed and simulated using QCA Designer-2.0.3.
