摘要：Despite the existence of advanced functions in smartphones, most blind people are still using old-fashioned phones with familiar layouts and dependence on tactile buttons. Smartphones support accessibility features including vibration, speech and sound feedback, and screen readers. However, these features are only intended to provide feedback to user commands or input. It is still a challenge for blind people to discover functions on the screen and to input the commands. Although voice commands are supported in smartphones, these commands are difficult for a system to recognize in noisy environments. At the same time, smartphones are integrated with sophisticated motion sensors, and motion gestures with device tilt have been gaining attention for eyes-free input. We believe that these motion gesture interactions offer more efficient access to smartphone functions for blind people. However, most blind people are not smartphone users and they are aware of neither the affordances available in smartphones nor the potential for interaction through motion gestures. To investigate the most usable gestures for blind people, we conducted a user-defined study with 13 blind participants. Using the gesture set and design heuristics from the user study, we implemented motion gesture based interfaces with speech and vibration feedback for browsing phone books and making a call. We then conducted a second study to investigate the usability of the motion gesture interface and user experiences using the system. The findings indicated that motion gesture interfaces are more efficient than traditional button interfaces. Through the study results, we provided implications for designing smartphone interfaces.

摘要：The objective of this paper is to examine an effective strategy for maintaining and utilizing the traditional arts resources of japan. The authors explore two pillars of the strategy. One is to improve the quality of japanese traditional performing arts by securing incomes for artists. The other is to utilize the traditional arts as a medium to expand japanese cultural influence in foreign countries and to improve japan＇s branding as a nation. First, the authors focus on the income security system practiced in traditional japanese music and describe the discrepancy between short- and long-run optimality. The authors prove that the reputation of this art form affects its popularity and that it is optimal for the Iemoto （the head of the music school） to restrict the number of pupils in onstage performances in order to maintain stage quality. Second, the authors provide evidence that effective methods for a country to expand its cultural influence across the world differ among nations. The authors conduct willingness-to-pay （WTP） experiments and find that while German audiences largely prefer traditional japanese music, those in the USA are slightly partial to its mixed fusion form. Therefore, the effective ways to expand japanese cultural influence in foreign countries differ from one country to another.

摘要：Statistical manipulation of material data was conducted for probabilistic life assessment or risk-based design and maintenance for high temperature components of power plants. To obtain the statistical distribution of material properties, dominant parameters affecting material properties are introduced into normalization of statistical variables. Those parameters are hardness, chemical composition, characteristic micro structural features and so on. Creep and fatigue properties are expressed by normalized parameters and the unified statistical distributions are obtained. These probability distribution functions show good coincidence statistically with the field database of steam turbine components. It was concluded that the unified statistical baseline approach is useful for the risk management of components in power plants.

摘要：The basic concept of synchrotron radiation beamlines for vacuum ultraviolet and X-ray experiments has been introduced to beginning users and designers of beamlines. The beamline defined here is composed of a front end, pre-mirrors, and a monochromator with refocusing mirrors, which are connected by beam pipes, providing monochromatic light for the experiments. Firstly, time characteristics of the synchrotron radiation are briefly reviewed. Secondly, the basic technology is introduced as the fundamental knowledge required to both users and designers. The topics are photoabsorption by air and solids, front ends and beam pipes, mirrors, monochromators, and filters. Thirdly, the design consideration is described mainly for the designers. The topics are design principle, principle of ray tracing, optical machinery and control, and vacuum. Fourthly, polarization control is considered. The topics are polarizers, polarization diagnosis of beamline, and circularly-polarized light generation. Finally, a brief summary is given introducing some references for further knowledge of the users and the designers.

摘要：The fundamental characteristics and the flow mechanism of a Vibrating Flow Pump （VFP） with a jelly-fish valve, which can be applied to a novel artificial heart, were studied theoretically and experimentally. By using water as the working fluid, the measurement methodology for the typical unsteady flow for VFP was developed here. The effects of the frequency, amplitude and inner diameter of the vibrating pipe, and thickness of the silicone rubber sheet of the jelly-fish valve on the basic per- formance of VFP were systematically investigated. A high-speed observation technique and simple theoretical model analysis were also introdueed for further detailed discussion. Quantitative contributions of the individual parameters to the pumping performance were shown through the experiment, which would give us essential knowledge for establishing design criteria of VFE The theoretical model, which agreed with the experiment and the high-speed observation, elucidated the pumping mechanism with respect to the role of inertia of the inner fluid.

摘要：This work is concerned with the problem of L2 gain disturbance attenuation for nonlinear systems and nonlinear robust control for power systems. In terms of the recurrence design approach proposed, the nonnegative solution of dissipative inequality and the storage function of nonlinear H∞ control for a generator excitation system are acquired. From this storage function, the excitation controller is constructed. Moreover, simulation results manifest the effectiveness of this design method.

摘要：This paper introduces supervised learning model, and surveys related research work. The paper is organised as follows. A supervised learning model is firstly described. The bias-variance trade-off is then discussed for the supervised learning model. Based on the bias-variance trade-off, both the single neural network approaches and the neural network ensemble approaches are overviewed, and problems with the existing approaches are indicated. Finally, the paper concludes with specifying potential future research directions.

摘要：This paper focuses on a pattern design method for a 3D triangular garment surface. Firstly, some definitions of 3D style lines are proposed for designing the boundaries of patterns as drawing straight lines or splines on the triangular surface. Additionally some commonly used style lines are automatically generated to enhance design efficiency. Secondly, after style lines are preprocessed, a searching method is presented for quickly obtaining the boundaries and patches of a pattern on the 3D trian- gular surface. Finally a new pattern design reuse method is introduced by encoding/decoding the style line information. After style lines are encoded, the pattern design information can be saved in a pattern template and when decoding this template on a new garment surface, it automates the pattern generation for made-to-measure apparel products.
