摘要：Cooperation is ubiquitous in biological sys- tems. However, if natural selection favors traits that confer an advantage to one individual over another, then helping others would be paradoxical. Nevertheless, cooperation persists and is critical in maintaining homeostasis in systems ranging from populations of bacteria to groupings of mammals. Developing an understanding of the dynamics and mechanisms by which cooperation operates is critical in understanding ecological and evolutionary relationships. Over the past decade, synthetic biology has emerged as a powerful tool to study social dynamics. By engineering rationally controlled and modulatable beha- vior into microbes, we have increased our overall under- standing of how cooperation enhances, or conversely constrains, populations. Furthermore, it has increased our understanding of how cooperation is maintained within populations, which may provide a useful framework to influence populations by altering cooperation. As many bacterial pathogens require cooperation to infect the host and survive, the principles developed using synthetic biology offer promise of developing novel tools and strategies to treat infections, which may reduce the use of antimicrobial agents. Overall, the use of engineered cooperative microbes has allowed the field to verify existing, and develop novel, theories that may govern cooperative behaviors at all levels of biology.

摘要：epartment of Wood science, University of Hamburg, Hamburg D-21031, GermanyBased on three Chinese pine (Pinus tabulaeformis Carr.) and one Meyer spruce (Picea meyeri Rehd. et Wils.) ring-width chronologies, a 163-year drought history was reconstructed in the eastern Ortindag Sand Land. All tree-ring chronologies show large inter-annual variations and strong common signals and fairly consistent variation between different chronologies, indicating that they are excellent proxy of regional climate. A regional chronology (RC) was established by averaging the four standard chronologies and further employed for the analysis and climatic reconstruction. The analysis revealed that tree growth is primarily limited by low precipitation in February-March and June-July and high temperature in May-July. In addition, RC has high correlations with the monthly Palmer drought severity index (PDSI) prior to and during the growing season because the PDSI considers the accumulation of the droughts. Response function analysis revealed that RC only exhibits significant correlations with the PDSI in June and July (close to the 95% significance level in May). Because May―July is a critical period for tree growth, the average May-July PDSI (PDSI5-7) was reconstructed back to 1842 using RC in the Ortindag Sand Land. The reconstruction can explain 52% of the PDSI variance and the equation was rather stable over time. It agrees well with the variation of the average dryness/wetness indices in North China,and captures the decline process of the East Asian summer monsoon since the mid-1960s. It is worth noting that the Ortindag Sand Land has experienced the most severe drought in the recent 40 years based on the 163-year drought reconstruction. Like summer precipitation in North China the reconstructed PDSI5-7 also displays a 20-year oscillation.

摘要：Aiming to solve the inefficient segmentation in traditional C-V model for complex topography image and time-consuming process caused by the level set function solving with partial differential, an improved Chan-Vese model is presented in this paper. With the good per）brmances of maintaining topological properties of the traditional level set method and avoiding the numerical so- lution of partial differential, the same segmentation results could be easily obtained. Thus, a stable foundation tbr rapid segmenta- tion-based on image reconstruction identification is established.

摘要：利用可再生能源驱动的电催化C-N偶联来合成尿素可以取代高能耗、高污染的工业生产尿素过程.然而,同时提高尿素收率和相应的法拉第效率,目前仍面临挑战.在此,我们设计了富氧空位的Ru掺杂CeO_(2)电催化剂用于高效电化学合成尿素.通过调节Ru的比例,发现最佳掺杂量为5%,该Ru-CeO_(2)电催化剂在电压为-0.7 V ***时能提供20.2 mmol h^(-1)g^(-1)的高尿素产率和20.1%法拉第效率,优于大多数已报道的催化剂.实验结果表明,Ru掺杂和氧空位的协同效应优化了反应物的吸附和活化,增强了C-N偶联的动力学,并显著提高了电化学合成尿素的效率.本工作将为开发高效合成尿素的先进C-N偶联电催化剂提供借鉴.

摘要：As one of the most promising photoanode candidates for photoelectrochemical(PEC)water splitting,the photocurrent density of BiVO_(4) still needs to be further improved in order to meet the practical *** this work,a highly‐matched BiVO_(4)/WO_(3) nanobowl(NB)photoanode was constructed to enhance charge separation at the interface of the *** further modification of the BiVO_(4)/WO_(3)NB surface by NiOOH/FeOOH as an oxygen evolution cocatalyst(OEC)layer,a high photocurrent density of 3.05 mA cm^(−2) at 1.23 V *** has been achieved,which is about 5‐fold higher than pristine BiVO_(4) in neutral medium under AM 1.5 G illumination.5 times higher IPCE at 450 nm is also achieved compared with the BiVO_(4) photoanode,leading to about 95%faradaic efficiency for both H_(2) and O_(2) gas *** studies attribute the significantly enhanced PEC performance to the smaller BiVO_(4) particle size(<90 nm)than its hole diffusion length(~100 nm),the improved charge separation of BiVO_(4) by the single layer WO_(3) nanobowl array and the function of OEC *** WO_(3)NB possesses much smaller interface resistance with the substrate FTO glass and larger contact area with BiVO_(4) *** approach provides new insights to design and fabricate BiVO_(4)‐based heterojunction photoanode for higher PEC water splitting performance.

摘要：A field experiment was conducted at Kpongu in the Upper West region of Ghana to determine the added benefits in grain yield of maize derived from the concurrent use of manure and mineral fertilizer, and their cost effectiveness. Factorial combinations of cattle manure and mineral fertilizer each at 0, 50 and 100% of their recommended rates were evaluated in both the field and the laboratory studies. The treatments were applied in a randomized complete block design with three replications on the field. The same treatments were applied in the incubation study in a completely randomized design. The use of 100% NPK （Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium） ＋ 5 t manure gave the highest grain yield of 4,678 kg·ha^-1. Synergistic interactions resulting in added benefits in grain yield were observed in all the combined nutrient inputs except 50% NPK ＋ 2.5 t manure which accrued an added disadvantage of 44 kg·ha^-1. Economic analysis proved that 100% NPK ＋ 2.5 t manure and 50% NPK ＋ 5 t manure were the most economically viable combined treatments in terms of grain yield. Based on the results from this study, resource poor farmers in the Upper West region of Ghana may reduce mineral fertilizer recommended rates by 50% and supplement it with 5 t quality （N 〉2.5%） cattle manure without compromising yield and profit.
