摘要：In this paper, based on the principle of Arrayed Waveguide Grating (AWG)theory, some important parameters are optimized for polymer AWG around the central wavelength of1.55μm with the wavelength spacing of 1.6 nm. Then, a 9 X 9 polymer AWG is designed and thefabricating process are described . The cladding material is poly-methyl-methacrylate-co-glyciclylmethacrylate (PMMA-GMA) and the core material is the mixture of PMMA-GMA and bis-phonel-A epoxy. Inorder to obtain a better shape of the waveguide after the Reactive Ion Etching (RIE) using oxygen,an aluminum mask is used on polymer instead of conventional photoresist as mask in the fabricationprocess. The measuring results indicate that the fabricated optical waveguide achieves single-modetransmission.

摘要：We have studied the optical matching layers （OMLs） and external quantum efficiency in the evanescent coupling photodiodes （ECPDs） integrating a diluted waveguide as a fibre-to-waveguide coupler, by using the semi-vectorial beam propagation method （BPM）. The physical basis of OML has been identified, thereby a general designing rule of OML is developed in such a kind of photodiode. In addition, the external quantum efficiency and the polarization sensitivity versus the absorption and coupling length are analysed. With an optical matching layer, the absorption medium with a length of 30μm could absorb 90% of the incident light at 1.55μm wavelength, thus the total absorption increases more than 7 times over that of the photodiode without any optical matching layer.

摘要：Efficient coupling from the silicon waveguide to the GeSi layer is the key to success in the GeSi electro-absorption （EA） modulator based on evanescent coupling. A lateral taper in the upper GeSi layer has room for increasing the modulating efficiency and alleviating the sensitivity of the extinction ratio （ER） and insertion loss （IL） to the length of the active region. The light behavior and the effect of the taper are explored in detail using the beam propagation method （BPM）. After optimization, the light can nearly be totally confined in the GeSi layer without any oscillation. The modulator with the designed taper can achieve low IL and high ER.

摘要：We have provided optical simulations of the evanescently coupled waveguide photodiodes integrated with a 13- channels AWGs. The photodiode could exhibit high internal efficiency by appropriate choice of layers geometry and refrac- tive index. Aseamless joint structure has been designed and fabricated for integrating the output waveguides of AWGs with the evanescently coupled waveguide photodiode array. The highest simulation quantum efficiency could achieve 92% when the matching layer thickfiess of the PD is 120 nm and the insertion length is 2 μm. The fabricated PD with 320-nm-thick *** layer and 2-μm-length insertion matching layer present a responsivity of 0.87 A/W.

摘要：We have designed an air-bridged PhC microcavity with high sensitivity and a high quality *** structure parameters of the microcavity are optimized by three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method. We compare the performance of a silicon-on-insulator PhC microcavity and an air-bridged PhC microcavity,and analyze the effect of the thickness of the slab and the radius of the defect hole on the performance of the air-bridged PhC *** a thinner slab and a larger defect hole,the sensitivity is higher while the quality factor is *** the air-bridged photonic crystal slab,the sensitivity can reach 320-nm/RIU（refractive index unit） while the quality factor keeps a relatively high value of 120 by selecting the proper slab thickness and the defect hole radius,respectively,when the refractive index is *** is meaningful for low-detection-limit biosensing.

摘要：In this paper, we present the design, fabrication, and measurement of an evanescently coupled waveguide photode- tector operating at 1.55 gm, which mainly comprises a diluted waveguide, a single-mode rib waveguide and a p-i-n photodiode with an extended optical matching layer. The optical characteristics of this structure are studied by using a three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain （3D FDTD） method. The photodetector exhibits a high 3-dB bandwidth of more than 35 GHz and a responsivity of 0.291 A/W at 1550 nm directly coupled with a cleaved fiber. Moreover, a linear response of more than 72-mW optical power is achieved, where a photocurrent of more than 21 mA is obtained at a reverse bias voltage of 3 V.

摘要：In this paper, numerical analysis of GaSb （Eg = 0.72 eV）/Gao.84Ino.16Aso.14Sbo.86 （Eg = 0.53 eV） tandem thermopho- tovoltaic （TPV） cells is carried out by using Silvaco/Atlas software. In the tandem cells, a GaSb p-n homojunction is used for the top cell and a GalnAsSb p-n homojunction for the bottom cell. A heavily doped GaSb tunnel junction connects the two sub-cells together. The simulations are carried out at a radiator temperature of 2000 K and a cell temperature of 300 K. The radiation photons are injected from the top of the tandem cells. key properties of the single- and dual-junction TPV cells, including I-V characteristic, maximum output power （Pmax）, open-circuit voltage （Voc）, short-circuit current （/~sc）, etc. are presented. The effects of the sub-cell thickness and carrier concentration on the key properties of tandem cells are investigated. A comparison of the dual-TPV cells with GaSb and GalnAsSb single junction cells shows that the Pmax of tandem cells is almost twice as great as that of the single-junction cells.

摘要：A 10-channel, 200 GHz channel spacing InP arrayed waveguide grating was designed, and the deep ridge waveguide design makes it polarization independent. Under the technologies of molecular beam epitaxy, lithography, and induced coupler plasma etching, the chip was fabricated in our laboratory. The test results show that the insertion loss is about -8 dB, and the crosstalk is less than -17 dB.

摘要：A novel design of out-of-plane grating couplers is proposed for coupling between silicon-on-insulator nanophotonic waveguides and single-mode fibres. The coupler with the first-order diffraction coupling to the optical fibre is actually a second-order reflected grating with two times of period of the first-order grating. To enhance outcoupled power, a back hole is designed to form in the silicon substrate and a kind of metals is placed on the top acting as a reflection layer. The coupler is optimized using coupled-mode-based simulations, showing that the coupling efficiency to and from tapered optical fibre can be as high as 85% with 1dB bandwidth about 23 nm.
